Nature of request
The tenants of the vill of Raughton state that they hold of the King and his ancestors by the service of guarding the nests and young of the King's goshawks in the Forest of Inglewood, paying 9s annually to the Carlisle Exchequer if there are no nests to guard. They paid this sum for a time, but now the nests have come back and they are still being charged the 9s. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
A writ is to be sent to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to inquire by what services the vill of Raughton mentioned in the petition is held; and if they find that it is held by the service of guarding the young and nests of the King's goshawks in the Forest of Inglewood, in the form contained in the petition, and not in any other, and that the said nests are there now, then the tenants named in the petition are to be discharged from the 9s. mentioned in the petition.
