Description
Petitioners
Joan Randolf widow of John Randolf, and executrix of his testament.
Name(s)
Randolf, Joan
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Joan Randolf states that her late husband was given custody of the manor of Meonstoke in Hampshire, then in the King's hand for some reason, and that, although he received little or no profit from it, the Sheriff of Hampshire has seized all his goods and chattels for this reason, so that she cannot carry out the provisions of his testament. She asks that the Treasurer and Barons of the exchequer might be ordered to inform the King in Chancery of the length of time the manor was in the King's hand, and its annual value, so that she can make satisfaction to the King for that length of time. And she asks that she might be able to have her late husband's goods and chattels on mainprise in the meantime.
Nature of endorsement
She is to have a writ to the Treasurer and Barons to provide information in Chancery on what she [asks] in her petition. And the said Treasurer and Barons are to be ordered that if the woman finds sufficient mainprise to answer to the King for the said goods and chattels, as far as they suffice, then they are to have the said goods and chattels delivered to her for the said mainprise.
