Nature of request
Thomas Renter states that he was coming from Newcastle upon Tyne with a cargo, when his ship was seized by William de Gofferd's mariners and taken to Great Yarmouth for the King's war against the King of France. He asks that his ship and coal might be returned to him, as he is the King's man and the Queen has recommended him to the council.
Nature of endorsement
William de Gosford and the Bailiffs of Yarmouth are to be ordered to inform themselves about whether the said John, master of the ship mentioned in the petition, is of the power of the King of England of the county of Pontoise; and if the ship and goods mentioned in the petition were seized for the reason claimed by the petition and not for any other, then the said ship and goods are to be released to the said Thomas.

Dated to '? 1337-40' by Northumberland Petitions pp.248-9 (no. 221) on the grounds that Gosford was active in the seizure of ships to and from Flanders between these dates (mentioning three references to one ship seized by him, CCR 1337-9 pp.172, 331, 344).
