Nature of request
Thomas Rydale of Berwick, who has been imprisoned for four years in various places, without knowing the reason, and who is now in the Marshalsea, asks the King and council, in the light of the King's recent commandment that justice and common law be done to all manner of people, that he might come before the council or the King's justices, and know the reason for his imprisonment, and that he might be able to answer to the charges made against him. He also asks that he might be released on mainprise in the meantime.

Note
Dated on the guard to c.1366, with reference to Rot. Scot., vol. I p.903 (related order dated 15 June 1366). The petition would seem to predate this order. Bain, however, dates the petition to 1370.
