Nature of request
Reginald Russel asks for the king's grace, that he might be able to pay the debts he owes the King in instalments, as he was promised that the passage of his soldiers from Ireland to Scotland and back would be paid, and he has been greatly underpaid for the return journey.
Nature of endorsement
He is to account in the Exchequer, and the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to inform the King of the amount of his debt, and the King will take counsel. And in the meantime, the distraints etc. are to be halted.

Dated to c. 1301 by 'Irish Ancient Petitions' p.23. Cal. Docs Ireland vol. III nos.788 (instructions to the Justiciar, Treasurer and others to treat with the magnates and commons of Ireland about coming with horses and arms to the aid of the king's war in Scotland, dated 28 March 1301) & 849 (a grant of power to pardon debts in exchange for service in Scotland, dated December 1301), may well be relevant.
