Date
[1330-1331]
Description
Petitioners
William de la Rue, parson of Compton.
Name(s)
de la Rue, William
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
parson of Compton
Nature of request
William de la Rue states that he was sent to the Channel Islands by the king's commission, to inquire into the King's ministers there, and their wages and fees, and that, although he performed his commission, and was in the Islands for seventeen weeks, he has not yet been paid for his expenses or effort. He requests a writ to John de Roches, formerly Keeper of the Channel Islands, who has not yet rendered his account, to pay him such a sum of money as seems suitable to the king and council.
Nature of endorsement
The [Treasurer and Barons] of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have examined [the evidence] he has and called John de Roches, formerly Keeper of the Channel Islands, before them, if they find that he was in the King's service, they are to pay him reasonable wages and expenses according to their discretion, for the time he stayed there and on the testimony of the said John.
Places mentioned
Compton (unidentified)
Guernsey, [Channel Islands]
Jersey, [Channel Islands]
Sark, [Channel Islands]
Alderney, [Channel Islands].
People mentioned
John de Roches, formerly Keeper of the Channel Islands.
Note
CPR 1327-30 p.561 is dated 16 May 1330. CCR 1330-3 pp.244-5 is dated 12 June 1331: this would appear to be later than this petition, as William has now been paid a certain sum for his wages. The petition would therefore seem to be datable to 1330-1331.
