Description
Petitioners
Catherine de Roos (Ros), widow of John de Roos (Ros).
Name(s)
de Roos (Ros), Catherine
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Catherine, widow of John, son of Thomas de Roos of Kendal, states that although she was jointly enfeoffed with her husband of the manor and town of Cargo, after John's death the Escheator seized it into the King's hand because an office held before him found that John died seised of it in his demesne as in fee, and held it of the king by knight service, and that his heir is under age, and for various other findings of another inquisition: whereas she states that it is held of Adam Parvynk. She has long sued in Chancery to have a writ to the Escheator to inquire into this matter, but has not been able to have one. She asks that she might be able to have such a writ to the Escheator and to other suitable people, and that if it is found that what she says is true, that she might be able to have her manor.
Nature of endorsement
A writ to inquire better is to be sent to the present Escheator, with other good and trustworthy people, if the party wishes it, and if it is found that her claim is true, then he is to be ordered to remove the King's hand.
