Reference
SC 8/69/3405
Date
[c. 1282-c. 1290]
Description
Petitioners
Alice Reneward (Savelyn), widow of John Reneward, formerly burgess of Bristol.
Name(s)
Reneward (Savelyn), Alice
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Alice, widow of John Reneward, makes three complaints against Richard de Manegodesfelde:1) She states that she entered into partnership in a ship with Richard, and when she asked him for her share of the profits and for the money she put into the venture, he refused to give it to her. She requests grace and a remedy.2) She states that Richard had received a tally from her for a debt that he was to obtain for her, but that he has withheld the money from her and continues to do so. She asks for an inquiry into this, and that justice might be done to her, for the soul of King Henry.3) She states that Richard broke up another ship in which she and he were partners, against her will, and carried off the wood. She requests a remedy, as she has had no profit from this since the King's tenth year.
Nature of endorsement
In Chancery.
Places mentioned
Bristol, [Gloucestershire].
People mentioned
John Reneward, formerly burgess of Bristol, husband of petitioner
Richard de Manegodesfelde (Mangotsfield)
Henry [III], King of England.
Note
The petition mentions the king's tenth year (20 November 1281-19 November 1282) as being passed - indeed some time in the past. From the beavertail 's' on the dorse, it probably does not date from much later than 1290.
