Nature of request
The barons of Romney state that they have built a sluice on their own land, to preserve and maintain their harbour, in a place where there has been a sluice since time immemorial, but that certain people, wishing to destroy the harbour, have purchased a commission of walliis et fossatis (sewers), the transcript of which is sewn to this petition, and, by means of false claims in an inquisition taken in the barons' absence, and without their being warned, they have got the justices assigned to this commission to order that the sluice be destroyed. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Orders are to be given by writ of Chancery to have the record and process of the whole business brought before the justices appointed to hold the King's pleas, and the said justices are to be written to, that, when they have examined the aforesaid record and process, and when they have called before them those who are to be called, they are further to do justice.
