Reference
SC 8/68/3390
Date
[1332]
Description
Petitioners
Simon Fitz Richard.
Name(s)
Fitz Richard, Simon
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Simon Fitz Richard requests, for his service to the King and for the taking of Henry de Martevill, who was making war against the King's estate, two parts of two parts of the manor of Maynooth, together with the third part, held by Blanche, widow of John Fitz Thomas, Earl of Kildare, to hold quit until the majority of the heir of Richard Fitz Thomas, formerly Earl of Kildare. He currently holds these two parts, and the third part, for the valuation. He also asks that he might be able to acquire lands in Ireland to the value of £40, for himself and his heirs, notwithstanding the statute against this, and that he might be able to enfeoff others with the lands he holds already.
Nature of endorsement
The council remembers that the king has rewarded him, because of which the council does not think that the king should grant this request until he comes to these parts. He is to be acquitted of £20.
Places mentioned
Dublin, [Ireland]
Maynooth, [County Kildare, Ireland].
People mentioned
Henry de Martevill
Blanche [Fitz Thomas Fitz Gerald, Countess of Kildare], widow of John Fitz Thomas Fitz Gerald
John Fitz Thomas [Fitz Gerald], Earl of Kildare
Richard Fitz Thomas [Fitz Gerald], Earl of Kildare.
Note
CFR 1327-37 p.304 is dated 18 March 1332, and seems to precede this petition, and CPR 1330-4 p.271 is dated 6 April 1332, and seems to be the result of it. The petition would therefore seem to date from the end of March 1332, which would accord with the death of Richard Fitz Thomas Fitz Gerald in July 1331.
