Nature of request
The Abbot of Rewley outside Oxford states that he holds the church of Soham in fee farm of the alien Abbot of le Pin, and that he paid that farm to the Abbot for four years, a year before the lands, tenements and rents of aliens were taken into the king's hand: as he will prove by whatever means the council demands. He is now being asked to pay the farm again, by summons of the Exchequer; and requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
[Send to the Exchequer] a writ of the great seal containing the effect of this petition that, when the Abbot's complaint has been heard, and the acquittance that he has been examined, and, if necessary, when there has been an inquiry into the truth of this matter, if they find that the Abbot paid the said farm beforehand in good faith, and not by fraud and collusion, to deprive the king of the farm, then they are to have him discharged of the said farm for the time that he paid beforehand.
