Nature of request
Henry, parson of the church of Rayleigh, states that the king has a park within the boundaries of his parish, and a stud farm, from which he and his predecessors have always been seised of a tithe of foals and fillies, as part of a tithe of all young animals, domestic or wild: but that for the last eight years the king's bailiffs have withheld the tithe of foals. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.It seems to the council that the tithe he requests is owed, if it please the Lord King.The bailiffs are to be ordered to have the tithes given as they were previously; provided always that no prejudice is done to other churches.
Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1322' with reference to CCR 1318-23 p.590, an order to pay this tithe to William de Rothewell, parson of the church of Eastwood dated 9 August 1322. From the hand and the French endorsement, this petition would seem to date from about this time.
