Nature of request
The Abbot of St Radegund's, near Dover, requests the aid of the King's brother in expediting three pieces of business:1) The king has granted them that they may appropriate 48 acres of land in fee, as can be seen by the inquisition on this, which is sewn to this petition, and this inquisition has been delivered to William de Corbregge, but they have had no attorney in the King's court to expedite their business since the King's coming. They ask that this land might be delivered to them.2) The King has granted them a gate through the city wall of Canterbury to their houses and they ask that they might be able to break through the wall to make this gate.3) They state that they lately demanded greater and lesser tithes from the Sub-prior and convent of St Martin's, Dover for a manor which they hold belonging to the church of Sibertswold, of which St Radegund's holds the appropriation and advowson; but that the Sub-prior has obtained a prohibition by claiming, falsely, the Abbot of St Radegund's has empleaded him in court Christian for a quarter of that advowson. The Abbot requests that the case may return to the original court.
