Nature of request
Michael de Presfen states that when he was Bailiff of the manor of Wark in 18 Edward II [1324-1325], the Scots carried off £13 of rents collected by his lieutenant, during time of truce. The Exchequer wanted to charge the money against his account, but, as he was suing to the wardens of the truce for justice, as he had been told to do in answer to a bill he presented in parliament, the Scots broke the truce: so he still has no allowance for this sum. He requests a remedy, so that he is not wrongly charged with this money.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons are to be ordered to assign Roger Heron and William de Denum to inquire into the truth of these matters, and to return the inquisition before them. And if it is found by the inquisition that these things are true, they are to let them have an allowance in their account; and in the meantime the demand is to be suspended.
