Description
Petitioners
Roger de Preston and Robert de Preston his son.
Name(s)
de Preston; de Preston, Roger; Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Roger de Preston and Robert his son state that Eustace le Poer and Maud his wife leased part of the manor of Ardee, which they held by right of Maud, to them for term of life, and that this was afterwards taken into the king's hand because Eustace defaulted in a mainprise in which he had engaged himself before the lease was made. Eustace is now dead and the king's estate terminated, and the land is about to be delivered to Maud, to their prejudice. They request a writ to the Justiciar of Ireland, that if he can find by inquisition that this is so, he might deliver the lands to them with the issues since Eustace's death; notwithstanding any grant made to anyone by the king's ministers.
Nature of endorsement
Nothing is to be done for this petition, because the Justices of Ireland are obliged to do justice according to their oath.
Places mentioned
Dublin, [County Dublin, Ireland]
Athyrde (Ardee), [County Louth, Ireland].
People mentioned

Note
Dated on the guard to '? c. 1347' with reference to CPR 1345-8 pp.261-2, an inspeximus and confirmation of letters patent attesting to the grant to Walter de Bermyngham of some lands forfeited by Eustace le Poer, dated 2 March 1347. Although not strictly relevant, this entry seems likely to date from around the same time.
