Nature of request
The Brothers of St Augustine of Kingston upon Hull state that they had acquired a messuage in Hull of the gift of Geoffrey de Hothum, and confirmed by the present King, in perpetual alms, and that because Geoffrey had held this messuage for life in free burgage without paying anything, of the gift of the Abbot of Meaux, his heirs to pay a mark annually to the chief lord of the fee after his death, the bailiffs are distraining the brothers for this mark. They ask the king, of his grace, to remit this mark to them, as it was never paid in his father's time, or in his time until now.

There is to be an inquiry into the truth of these things in the presence of the Keeper and of the burgesses of the town; and into what harm etc.
