Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Sent Auban, executor of the testament of William de Grenefeld, formerly Archbishop of York.
Name(s)
de Sent Auban, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Thomas de Sent Auban, executor of the testament of William de Grenefeld, formerly Archbishop of York, asks that a sum of money owed by the late Archbishop to the King, and demanded from him by the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, might be allowed against the money owed by the King to the Archbishop for corn taken from his executors, and that he might have payment or an assignment for the rest of this sum.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have seen the evidence the said executor has for the debt, and the account of those who received the said corn, if they find that the debt is clearly due, then they are to give him a due allowance according to the tenor of this petition, or payment or an assignment as soon as they properly can, receiving etc. and charging etc.
People mentioned
William de Grenefeld (Greenfield), formerly Archbishop of York
Simon de Dreby
John de Walewayn, formerly Escheator South of the Trent
Simon de Wodeham
Thomas de Derby
Ralph de Dalton.
Note
William de Grenefeld, Archbishop of York, died on 6 December 1315. John Walewayn was Escheator South of the Trent between 19 February 1315 and 3 July 1318. But from the French endorsement, this petition is rather later: although clearly addressed to Edward II, the wording of the endorsement is similar to that of petitions of early Edward III. However, it cannot be later than 1327.
