William de Saint Albin, Prior of Goldcliff.
Name(s)
de Saint Albin, William
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Prior of Goldcliff
Nature of request
William de Saint Albin, Prior of Goldcliff, makes two requests:1) He states that, during Roger Damory's rebellion against the King, he and his associates, William le Walsse and Gruffydd ap Henri, threatened and harassed the Prior and his people, and sued against him until he had been expelled from lands, tenements, rents and other possessions. The Prior requests that this might be redressed, so that he might hold his priory as he received it from the King, without being empleaded in any court but the King's, and so that the King might not be disinherited.2) He states that during the rebellion some of Roger's men came with force and arms seized the Prior and imprisoned him until he had made fine in 100 marks, of which he has paid 50 marks, and took and carried off goods and chattels belonging to him, and made waste and destruction in his lands and tenements. He requests a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Certain justices are to be assigned by a writ containing the [effect of the] petition, to hear and determine, and, calling the parties etc., they are to do justice on the contents etc.To the second petition: justices are likewise to be assigned to hear and determine the complaint, according to the law and customs of those parts etc., because the place is outside the bailiwick of the Justiciar of Wales, as is attested before the council.
