Reference
SC 8/68/3357
Date
[1312-1322]
Description
Petitioners
Agnes de Aylesburs (Aylesbury), Prioress of Wroxall.
Name(s)
de Aylesburs (Aylesbury), Agnes
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Prioress of Wroxall
Nature of request
Agnes de Aylesburs, Prioress of Wroxall, states that the Knights Templars disseised the Prioress and convent of 100 acres of wood in Wroxall, so that when they were dissolved, John de Mudbray, by his power and lordship encroached upon them and occupied the wood, and has always since withheld it from them. The Prioress and convent request a writ to inquire into their right to this wood, and that they might then have grace and justice.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Wroxall, [Warwickshire].
People mentioned
The Knights of the Order of the Temple (Knights Templars)
John de Mudbray (Mowbray).
Note
This petition is dated on the guard to 1312-1322, as it dates from after the suppression of the Templars, but before the forfeiture of John de Mowbray. It might date from after his forfeiture - the fact that the complain is being made would be in favour of this, although the fact that the wood is not mentioned as being in the King's hand must be against it.
