Nature of request
The petitioners state that a year ago it was agreed that restitution should be made to the Bishop of St Andrews for a ship called the Mary of St Andrews, which was unlawfully seized and which had come into the hands of a Thomas Gille; but that he has so far paid them nothing. The factors have sued to Lord Fortescu, to whom the matter has been committed, but Thomas has absented himself and the matter has been delayed. They request a subpoena, addressed to Thomas, ordering him to appear before the King and council on a certain day, to answer for his actions, and to do and receive what the king, on the advice of his council, shall decide.

The commissions calendared in CPR 1452-61 pp.301-303 are dated 23 December 1455, 6 March 1456 and 4 April 1456. The petitioners are mentioned, as the Bishop's factors and attorneys, but there is no mention of Thomas Gille: these commissions would appear to represent a different stage of proceedings.
