Nature of request
The people of Pontefract make two requests:1) They state that John de Wolleye, Henry Fitz Richard, Roger de Saham, Adam Sherewynd, who were appointed to collect the pavage granted in the town for five years, have spent most of the money on themselves. They request a remedy, and that the collectors might render account at the Exchequer soon, while they still have money in hand.2) The people of Uplond near Pontefract state that the same collectors have taken pavage at two or three times the value specified in their commission, and that they have leased the pavage from each type of goods at farm for half its value. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
With regard to the first petition: Robert de Bardelby, John de Danecastre and Michael de Melton, or two of them, are to be appointed to audit the account of the collectors of the aforesaid pavage, and to hear and determine, to inquire and to do justice to the complainants with regard to the contents of the second petition.
