Nature of request
Gerard Phelipe states that the ministers of Otto de Grantsoun imprisoned Ranulph Gautier, his uncle, in Guernsey castle and murdered him there, so that the Isles ought to be escheated to the king and the malefactors hanged. He requests Nicholas de Chene in Guernsey and Philip de Chene and John de Kartret in Jersey as justices to try this trespass and others; and also that he might have the king's protection until this is done, as these ministers are his enemies.

CPR 1317-21 p.375 is dated 26 June 1319, and p.516 is dated 8 November 1320. The petition would seem to date from around this time.CCR 1318-23 pp.296-297 is dated 22 April 1321.Also worth noting is CPR 1301-7 p.122, a pardon to Ranulph Gautier for the death of Thomas le Roer of Normandy, dated 7 March 1303.
