Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/67/3316
Date
[c. 1335]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Peshale, formerly Sheriff of Shropshire.
Name(s)
de Peshale, Richard
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Sheriff of Shropshire
Nature of request
Richard de Peshale states that the King granted by his charter to John de Nevile of Hornby the manor of Claverley with its appurtenances, and with all the petty farms which the Sheriff used to levy when the manor was in the King's hand; and that he sent a writ, the transcript of which is sewn to this petition, to Richard to tell him to allow John to levy these farms. Nevertheless, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer continue to charge him with them on his account: he requests a writ to them to discharge him of these sums.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue in Chancery and have a writ to the Treasurer and Barons that, when they have seen the command that he had to deliver the manor and the farms, they are to make him an allowance for those farms that they can establish that he has delivered by virtue of the said command.
Places mentioned
Claverley, Shropshire
Hornby, [Lancashire].
People mentioned
John de Nevile (Neville) of Hornby.
Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1335, with reference to the List of Sheriffs and to CIPM vol.VII, no.682, the inquisitions post mortem of John Neville, held during December 1335 and January 1336. Richard de Peshale was Sheriff of Shropshire between 3 February 1333 and 23 February 1335 (and again between 28 June 1338 and 30 July 1339), and since Nevill appears still to be alive at the time of the petition, it presumably dates to 1335.
