Nature of request
John Purchas states that Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, gave him, for his service, a pension of 20 marks annually, 10 from the mills of Duffield, and 10 from the Treasury [cofres]. He is now gravely ill and does not expect to be cured, and therefore asks that he might have the 10 marks of rent in the said mills, of the king's grace, and the other 10 marks in the said mills or elsewhere in the lands which belonged to the Earl of Lancaster.

He is to show the evidence which he has for the 10 marks from the mill, and there is to be an inquiry into the truth of the matter, and into from whom the mill is held; and what is to be done is further to be done.

The commission for CIM 1307-49 no.790 is dated 3 October 16 Edward II (1322). This seems to be a result of the petition. CCR 1323-7 p.248 is dated 20 December 1324.
