Note
According to Tout, Chapters in the Administrative History of Medieval England, vol. VI, p.35, Ralph de Stokes was Clerk of the Great Wardrobe, between 15 April 1300 and 11 September 1320. As he is no longer Clerk, but the petition dates from the reign of Edward II, it must date from 1320-1327 - which accords with the French endorsement, and with the fact that the first instalment of the money was paid on 17 May, 11 Edward II (1318).
