- Hugh de Pontfreit states that Roger de Ely, one of the Sheriffs of London, maliciously claimed that he had made a recognisance for £14 according to Statute Merchant, whereas he had made no such recognisance, and that he has been long imprisoned in Newgate gaol as a result. He asks that he might be released and have a remedy.

The language of the petition ('Roger de Ely, un des viscountz de Loundres nadgers lui soutmyst...') is ambiguous: Roger might still be Sheriff, or it might be some years later - especially as the petitioner says that he has been imprisoned for some time.
