- William de la Pole states that when he was travelling to Derby on the Saturday after the feast of St James in the king's sixteenth year, to attend the justices of assize there, he was ambushed in the king's highway by William Fitz Herbert with more than twenty-four armed malefactors, who would have killed him if he had not escaped to the church of All Saints in Derby. He requests a remedy.
