Description
Petitioners
Community of commote of Penllyn.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The community of the commote of Penllyn make two complaints:1) They state that they pay 5s. every year for the upkeep of buildings, but that the king's ministers are now distraining them to make the buildings, and they still have to pay the 5s. They ask that they might be discharged from one of the two.2) They complain that the king's ministers are distraining them for work on a bridge in Penllyn, whereas this used to be done from money given in alms.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] The Justiciar is to be ordered to inquire and to do full justice.
Places mentioned
Penllyn commote, [Merioneth, Wales]
Penllyn, [Merioneth, Wales].
Note
Dated by Petitions Relating to Wales, p.101 to 1315 on the basis of an order for an inquiry in that year to discover the true annual value of Penllyn (CCW 1244-1326 p.410). There seems no reason why this should be related: however, the petition may well be from roughly that date.
