Description
Petitioners
Thomas Page of Edgware.
Name(s)
Page, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Thomas Page of Edgware states that he impleaded the Abbot of Westminster concerning the manor of Hendon, of which his great-grandfather, Adam le Rous, was disseised by Geoffrey le Rous; whose son Richard then enfeoffed the Abbot. The Abbot, however, claims that the manor was a gift from King Edward, son of King Ethelred, and that he cannot answer without the king. Thomas requests a writ to the justices of Common Bench to continue the process.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ in Chancery to the justices of Common Bench, to have the tenor of the record and process brought into the same Chancery; and when they have been examined there, if it is found that the Abbot has made the claim that the petition alleges before the justices, then a writ is to be sent to the same justices to proceed in the business according to law and reason, provided that they do not proceed to judgment without consulting the king.
