Nature of request
The people of Northumberland state that, although they have been greatly destroyed by war, the Sheriff is nevertheless distraining them for cornage, the protection of the castle, and the farms of the forest, as he would in time of peace. They ask the king to order him to cease from this distraint and to give them relief until the country has recovered.

Coram rege.The king wishes to have the advice of the Sheriff and others of those parts.
