Nature of request
The executors request remedy for £200 is being demanded from them by the Exchequer against the liberties of Holy Church and in prejudice of all the prelates of England. The late bishop of Ely was amerced by the justices in the last eyre in £100 for allowing Chatesden, who was in his custody, to escape. When they came to Ely they charged him a further £100 for the same reason.

The petition dates to c. 1286-c. 1291 as Balsham died in June 1286, and Chatesden was pardoned his escape from Wisbech gaol where he had been put by Balsham in 1291 (CPR 1281-92, p.434).
