Writ of Edward III to the mayor and bailiffs of Oxford concerning a complaint made by the Master, scholars and university by petition, to hold public inquiry on certain points as to the fixed places where people of the town and strangers may bring their wares for sale, regulations for the sale of victuals, and relating to merchants, regrators and forestallers.
Nature of endorsement
Response of the mayor and bailiffs of the lord king of Oxford:1) Concerning the places at which victuals are sold there are 56 paying an annual rent to the king at Michaelmas, accounted for by the mayor to the sheriff.2) Agreement made between the mayor and bailiffs of the town and the chancellor of the university . . .
