The petitioners request remedy as they are not able to have restitution for the costs and damages which they have suffered for the loss of wheat which was part of a cargo on a boat of Zeeland taken by a small galley of the Duke of Exeter, and for Everbolt for his vessel and equipment. Note
A commission was issued, apparently in response to SC 8/132/6576, on 3 April 1451 (CPR 1446-52, p.441). This petition mentions the attack having taken place on 14 July, 27 Henry VI [1449]: as this is referred to here as 'ye XIIIth day of Juyll last passed', indicating a date for this petition of 1449-1450. In addition the petitioners brought proceedings against Payn, and the petition presumably stemmed from a failure to bring Payn to book (C 49/50/6).
