[c. 1280-c. 1300]
Description
Petitioners
Bishop of Ossory.

King
Occupation
Bishop of Ossory
Nature of request
The bishop requests remedy because the sheriff of Dublin takes 5 marks per annum in his tourns from his diocese whereas he only takes 2 marks from other dioceses.
Nature of endorsement
Let a writ be sent to the justice and council that they do right, and if they are not able to do this for any difficulty, that they certify the king on this.
Places mentioned
Ossory diocese, [Ireland].
People mentioned
Sheriff of Dublin.
Note
This petition has been speculatively dated to the end of the thirteenth century on the basis of its general appearance and the style of its handwriting. Sayles dates the petition to 1317, but his evidence for this seems flimsy (Sayles, Affairs, pp.88-9).
