Mauny requests that he be restored to the office of the Marshalsea of King's Bench, and that he should be able to answer for it, and if he has forfeited it, they it be forfeit, and if not he should be able to hold and re-enjoy the office according to the charter of the king, and that he be able to have restitution for the damages from the time that he was out of the office. He was granted the office by the earl Marshal and received confirmations from the king, but has been ousted from the office, and has been out of it for 10 years.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.
People mentioned
Thomas de Brotherton, Earl Marshal.
Note
There is no reason to disagree with the dating of this petition by Maitland. Mauny was admitted to the office in October 1331. The earl Marshal died in 1338, and Mauny was certainly back in office by 21 June 1349 (CPR 1348-50, p.332). The petition must date to the period 1338-1349. Maitland felt that it was probably only shortly before 1349 (SCCKB, vol. I, p.cxxi).
