Date

Description
Petitioners
Agnes Mautravers (Maltravers).
Name(s)
Mautravers (Maltravers), Agnes
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Mautravers requests that the king grant her a more certain estate, as she holds her dower lands only at the will of the king, and that he will pardon her the £40 in which she is bound for the corn growing on the land.
Nature of endorsement
She should retain the lands of her first husband and also her purchases for the term of her life so that she is not ousted because of the forfeiture of her husband, and concerning her dower she should sue Chancery and have her right.
Note
The petition probably dates to 1331 as Mautravers was the recipient of several grants of land and rent in 1331, and received a grant of the land that she had for life on 17 November 1331 (CPR 1330-4, pp.84, 89-90, 106, 120; the grant for life, p.215). Mautravers was not pardoned the money owed for the corn growing on the land until 26 March 1332 (CPR 1330-4, p.263).
