1) The abbot requests that he be granted the liberty of infangethief and judgement at their market and fair at Hull and to have and more safely keep the peace and to more easily punish malefactors as the king's prison at York is so distant.2) He further requests that he be granted . . . to correct the trespass concerning alien and English taverners who came and sold wine against the assize . . .

Note
The petition dates to c. 1279 when the abbot and convent were granted a weekly fair and an annual fair at Wyk upon Hull (CChR 1257-1300, p.214). Clearly the petition is later, and it is not possible to assess how much later, but this by its hand is clearly an early petition.
