Nature of request
Middelton requests that he be able to have his bailiwick according to his commission. The king granted him the lands of John de Hastings that were in the king's hand by the minority of his son and heir. Grey ejected him by another grant having no regard to his commission from the king.
Nature of endorsement
Let this petition be ordered before the justices assigned to hold the king's pleas, and it is ordered to them that when they have heard the complaint of the petitioner and called before them Grey, and viewed their commissions, and heard their arguments, they should do justice.

The petition dates to 1333 as Grey, who was keeper of Abergavenny castle, was ordered to restore the bailiwick of the serjeanty with the issues from the Hastings lands on 22 January 1334 (CCR 1333-7, p.172).
