Date
[? 1316]
Description

Robert de Mohaut (Mouhaut).
Name(s)
de Mohaut (Mouhaut), Robert
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Mohaut requests that the writ, remembrances and evidence sent to and found by the earl of Chester concerning Mohaut's rights in the manor of Ewloe be returned and viewed before the king and council, and that they will have advisement of the inquisition taken in Henry III's time before the justice of Chester of the bounds of the land of Roger de Mouhaut which is found in the rolls of the justice and this returned, and that he will according to this do grace and right for Mohaut's claims as his right and inheritance of all that is within these bounds.
Nature of endorsement
The petitioner is given a day to prosecute his petition before the king's council at Westminster in the quinzene of Easter.
Places mentioned
Ewloe, [Flintshire, Wales]
Chester, [Cheshire]
Westminster.
People mentioned
Earl of Chester
Thomas de Bolton, Justice of Chester
Roger de Mohaut (Mouhaut), grandfather of the petitioner.
Note
The date of this petition appears to be 1316. The guard comment on this petition goes into some detail about the chronology of this and the related petitions and documents, and dates this slightly later than Rees who opts for c. 1314-15 (Petitions Relating to Wales, p.91). However as this petition clearly refers to the writ, a copy of which is found as SC 8/62/3094, which is dated to 26 December 1315, Rees must be mistaken, and the date entered on the guard is almost certainly correct.
