Nature of request
1) Mountz requests that he be granted the custody of the castle of Stirling for the term of his life paying only what other sheriffs have paid in times of peace and war. He has served the king's father and mother for 28 years without reward of maintenance. 2) Mountz further requests a writ to the chamberlain of Scotland that he is paid his wages and those for his men in the garrison of the castle from the time when he held the custody so that he not lose by his good service.
Nature of endorsement
1) Concerning the first petition let him have letters for the custody of the castle of Stirling with the clause quamdiu regi placuerit. 2) Concerning the second petition it is ordered to the chamberlain of Scotland that he pay him his wages and those of his men in garrisoning the castle after he took the custody.
Note
The petition dates to 1308 for the requests made in the petition were answered separately by a commitment of Stirling castle made to him on 18 December 1308, and a writ to the chamberlain of Scotland to pay the wages issued on the same day (CFR 1307-19, p.34; Rot. Scot. vol. I, p.62).
