Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/61/3039
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Bernard Moygne of Southampton.
Name(s)
Moygne, Bernard
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Moygne requests remedy as Tyeys was bound to him for a robe and to keep him as befits a gentleman for a certain tenement in the town of Southampton which Tyeys holds from him charged with the maintenance for the life of the petitioner. The tenements are in the hand of the king by the forfeiture of Tyeys and he is not served of his maintenance.
Nature of endorsement
He should show what he has in Chancery, and law-worthy men are to be assigned to enquire in the presence etc. of the truth of the matters contained in the petition, and the inquisition returned. And if it is found as the petition supposes let justice be done in the same place.
Places mentioned
Southampton, [Hampshire].
People mentioned
Henry Tyeys.
Note
Tyeys forfeited in 1322 as a rebel, and it seems likely that this petition is of that year or shortly thereafter. A date of c. 1322 therefore seems acceptable.
