Mortimer requests that the archbishop of Canterbury or his commissary be requested that she not be troubled in court Christian and that judgement not be given against her concerning the vicar of Frome's demand for her late husband's second best horse which he had with him in Ireland when he died as a mortuary, as his destrier and his armour have already been given to the church where he was buried.

The petition dates to c. 1318 as the escheator was ordered to take Mortimer's lands into the king's hand on 25 October 1317, and the problems encountered by his widow must date to the following year or so (CFR 1307-19, p.343).
