Newcastle to Cumberland: the king approves Cumberland's proposals made in SP 87/25/84. He encloses letters from the plenipotentiaries and Bedford. He states three great ends the king has had in view in the whole negotiation. Considerations of the king of Sardinia and the Barrier Treaty. As the Austrians have withdrawn, without notice, 30,000 of their troops from the low countries, the king sees no reason to keep his army there once the treaty is signed. The German troops are to leave by 25 October. Cumberland is to prepare for the British troops to return and the discharge of those of Hesse and Wolfenbüttel. Measures to be concerted with the French and Dutch. Dated at Gohrde. PS. that the king has consented for Lieutenant Colonel Gumley to succeed Colonel Fitzroy. ff.178-185
