Gambia: MacCarthy Island. (16) 'Plan of New Mud Fort on MacCarthy's Island, River Gambia': shows soldiers' barracks and facilities for liberated Africans. Reference table to buildings. Scale: 5.5 inches to 110 feet. (17) 'Plan of MacCarthy's Island'. Shows positions of old and new forts at Georgetown; stores at Falola Point. Scale: 5.5 inches to 1,100 feet. Compass indicator. Traced from a plan in the possession of the Lieutenant Governor. Both signed by Robert Spalding, Clerk of Works, Engineer Department, Bathurst, 8 July 1835, to accompany his letter of that date. Dimensions of sheets: (16) 44 cm x 55 cm; (17) 28 cm x 42 cm.
