Georgia: Batum (now Bat'umi). 4 sheets of maps and plans relating to the defence of the city [by Turkey against Russia]. (39) 'Sketch of the Harbour and Defences of Batoum': map showing soundings, terrain, contour lines, a telegraph line and fortifications. Scale: 1:10,560. Compass indicator. (40) 'Sketch of the Position of Souruhisir. About 9 Miles N.W. of Batoum': map showing terrain, contours, rivers and Turkish earthworks. Scale: 1:21,120. Compass indicator. (41) Plans of batteries II and III. Scale: (II) 6 inches to 376 yards [1:2256]; (III) 3.5 inches to 210 yards [1:2160]. (42) Plan and section of battery I. Reference table of armaments at 2 February 1877. Scale: 1:1,800. Compass indicator. All items lithographed at the Intelligence Branch, Quartermaster General's Department, April 1877. Insets to item 40: diagram of Souruhisir castle; [printed] sketches of [Turkish] works, showing proposed gun positions, in the margins. All items signed: T A Fraser,Captain, Royal Engineers, February 1877. Dimensions: (39) 50 cm x 59 cm; (40) 41 cm x 24 cm, on sheet 41 cm x 43 cm; (41) 29 cm x 27.5 cm; (42) 29 cm x 35 cm.
