Description

Ottoman Empire: Dobrogea (now part of Romania): Danube Delta: Saint George (Sfantu Gheorghe) mouth. 9 sheets of plans and sections relating to 3 proposed alternative canal-construction schemes. (2) Plan and section of Project Number 1: as outlined in a report presented to the European Commission of the Danube, 17 December 1858; scale: 1:12,000. (3) Plan and section of Project Number 2: a modified version of the above scheme, suggested by Charles A Hartley; scale: 1:12,000. (4) Plan and section of Project Number 3: an alternative sheme involving the construction of parallel piers; scale: 1:12,000. (6) Plan and sections of a lock for Project Number 1; scales: 1:480 (plans), 1:240 and 1:200 (sections). (7) Plan and sections of a lock and stopping basin for Project Number 2; scales: 1480 (plans); 1:240 and 1:180 (sections). (8) Plans and seections of a causeway for Project Number 1. (9) Outline plan, possibly a detached overlay to one of items 2-5. (10)-(11) 2 sheets of plans and sections relating to project 3; scales: 1:960 (plans), 1:120 (sections). Compass indicators to items 2-4 and 9-11. All items traced by E J Standen, February-March 1859. Sheet sizes between 111.5 cm x 67 cm and 50 cm x 69 cm. Originally illustrating a copy of a report by C A Hartley, Engineer-in-Chief, 31 January 1859.
