Files from the ESG (Establishments, General Matters) series. They concern the functions and organisation of the Home Office, the Carlisle and District State Management Scheme, public records, official publications and other printed works, accommodation and staffing matters.

Although primarily concerned with departmental organisation, accommodation and staffing, the series also encompasses various other duties of the Establishment Department, such as those involving publications and public records, as well as matters referred from other divisions of the Home Office.

Official publications

The Establishment Division became the Establishments and Organisation Division in 1957 and the Establishment and Organisation Department in 1962. The Personnel and Administration Department, formed in 1972, enjoyed only a brief existence and, since 1973 personnel and administrative matters have been the responsibility of the Establishment Department.
