Asks for assistance in obtaining compensation from the Government of Bermuda who seized his ship Underwriter; encloses a copy of the incident as printed in The Gazette on 14 May 1886. The Colonial Office explains that"the secretary of state has no power to require the Governor of Bermuda to allow an action be brought against him in England".
