Description

Newcastle to Cumberland: the king's pleasure at Haddich's victory. He encloses a letter [SP 87/24/22] from Major General Fowke regarding the transports at Harwich. Expected arrival of the Russians in Silesia, and the possibility of transporting them by river. Measures to prevent trade with the enemy. Convention for taking 4,000 Austrian troops into British and Dutch service. Cumberland is to obtain a specification of the Dutch contingent and how soon it may be expected. He encloses a memoir on a regiment proposed to be raised in Ireland [SP 87/24/23] and three further letters on the subject. Complaints of Dutch merchants on a case in the High Court of Admiralty. He encloses a letter from the lords commissioners of the admiralty regarding Commodore Mitchell's squadron. He knows nothing of the state of the Wolfenbüttel troops.
