Cumberland to Chesterfield: the French would not agree to the exchange of Messrs Berenger and de Polignac, but they promise the release of Royal and German troops as soon as the first ship [with French prisoners] reaches Calais. He believes the first objective of the French will be Maastricht. The French king will review his army at Mechelen on the 16th. Allied dispositions and movements. Things look as if they are drawing to a crisis. Dated at headquarters at 'Bauwel'. ff. 318-320
